Shivajinagar is the heart of the city, also one of the oldest and fastest growing regions of Bengaluru. Shivajinagar gets its name from the famous Maratha warrior Maharaja Shivaji, who spent most of his childhood in this area. It is one of the 8 assembly segments of Bangalore Central Parliament Seat.

The famous Russell Market, one of the city’s oldest markets, is located in Shivajinagar. For residents of Cantonment and surrounding neighborhood, it was a top shopping center. It continues to be one of the city’s attractions. The constituency has some distinctive characteristics. There are many houses of worship. Shivajinagar includes the famous Someshwara temple from the Chola era, preserving the historical heritage of the city. People from all over the city come to worship at the Jumma Masjid, the historic St. Mary’s Basilica, and the city’s first Gurudwara in Ulsoor ward.
